A pair of large and spectacular French Regence style ormolu chenets or firedogs representing female reclining sphinxes holding diadems , the bases elaborately carved with medalions of Roman heroes over four turned legs , the model attributed to Andre Charles Boulle.
Second half of the 19th century.
Provenance: Parisian private collection, purchased from Galerie Segoura around 1980.
